A Florida Department of Corrections worker was killed in a crash involving a corrections road crew's truck and another car in Coconut Creek Monday.

The crash happened in the area of Sample Road and Northwest 42nd Avenue, Coconut Creek Police officials said.

The driver of the car and the corrections employee were taken to a local hospital where the officer later died. She was later identified as Tawanna Marin.

“We are absolutely devastated by the tragic passing of Officer Tawanna Marin. For more than nine years, Officer Marin served our state as a corrections officer, and we are forever grateful for her sacrifice and service to our community," Corrections Secretary Julie Jones said in a statement. "Our deepest condolences go out to her loved ones and fellow officers during this extremely difficult time."

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
