‘Court Has Spoken' on Gay Marriage: Florida Attorney General

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi says the "court has spoken" on gay marriage.

Bondi defended the state against lawsuits aimed at upending a ban on same sex marriage that had been approved by Florida efforts. Bondi defended her role in the legal battle in a statement released Friday, but added it is time to accept the outcome.

She said the Supreme Court's decision "provided the clarity our state and country was seeking."

Bondi said legal efforts were not about personal beliefs or opinions, but rather, "the rule of law."

A federal judge ruled last year that Florida's voter-approved ban is unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle stayed the effect of his ruling until Jan. 5. Same sex couples started getting married throughout the state on that date.
