Cross-Dressing Robber Holds Up Deerfield Beach Store

The man wore a curly wig, hat, and scarf covering his face.

A cross-dressing robber targeted a Deerfield Beach store Monday, donning a disguise in an effort to obscure his identity.

A man dressed as a woman held up the Dollar General store at 1377 S Dixie Hwy around 8 p.m., according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. The man wore a curly wig, hat, and scarf covering his face. Employees said he pulled a gun from a bronze purse and told them to "stay calm."

BSO said the man demanded cash from the safe and cartons of cigarettes, telling them, "Do as I say and get the money."

The clerks began filling up the shopping bags as the robber insisted they move more quickly, saying, "Sweet girl, if you want to go home, do what I say; hurry up."

Detectives said the man was about 6 feet tall with a thin build. Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
