Dog Fatally Shot By Bicyclist in Owner's Front Yard: Cops

The incident is still under investigation.

Authorities were investigating after a Doberman Pinscher was fatally shot in its owners front yard on Thanksgiving, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

A man on a bicycle shot and killed the 2-year-old dog named Scooby in a Whispering Pines front yard, Davie Police said.

"He told us the dog attacked him and he feared for his life," Davie Police Capt. Dale Engle was quoted as saying in the Sun-Sentinel.

Scooby's owner Dan Abou said he heard a gun shot and a whimper, and he ran and saw Scooby take a few steps and collapse on the ground.

"He gasped and he literally died in my arms," Abou was quoted as saying in the Sun-Sentinel.

Scooby, who was training to be a therapy dog, was not on a leash, but Abou told police that he was great with small children and wouldn't harm anyone.

Scooby was adopted in July from a Broward rescue league.

"I can't believe he gets rescued from the streets of Miami-Dade only to be shot and killed in Davie," Abou told the newspaper.

The man who shot the dog had a license for the gun, and no one has been arrested, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
