Damon Weaver is big now, and not just because he's 11.
Canal Point Elementary's intrepid boy journalist has interviewed Dwyane Wade, Oprah, and Caroline Kennedy; heroically held his microphone over his head as his "homeboy" Joe Biden launched into a long-winded speech about something (we were distracted by the cute); and lobbied Barack Obama for a side of fries and mango for school lunches after his appeal for a presidential sit-down charmed the pants off America and earned him a trip to the White House.
He's so big now he even has his own protege, 9-year-old third-grader Anthony Bowie, who accompanied him from Pahokee to Miami this week to interview people equally as huge: NFL superstars (and kickers) in the Pro Bowl.
Weaver, of course, is the elder stateman of Canal Point's student-produced KECTV; Anthony is still learning.
"I have a lot of Mexican friends," Anthony hilariously told his exclusive interviewee, Bengals wide receiver and Miami native Chad Ochocinco. "Are you Mexican?"
The hard-working duo took turns with the mic and camera; the results may not be breaking news but they sure are super-cute -- who else would smirk when Maurice Jones-Drew admits to watching Blue's Clues? We can only hope continued good grades and stellar behavior earn them another day off to cover the Super Bowl.
