A Walgreens clerk who was robbed at gunpoint in a Dania Beach store says he can't sleep and is still too traumatized to go back to work.
Roosevelt Fleurijeune was working the register at the store on Sheridan Street on Feb. 8 when the robber stuck a gun in his face and told him he had two minutes to open the drawer and give him cash.
"I didn't know what to think about it 'cause as soon as I saw it I kinda backed up, I was like wait, is this really happening?" Fleurijeune said Monday. "And then I was like, I gotta get this man out of here because am I really about to die at Walgreens, are all of us about to die at Walgreens, that's what I'm thinking about."
The armed man also pointed his gun at a customer who was already in the store and another who happened to walk in during the robbery.
Fleurijeune said the man told him if he looked at his face, he would kill him. Fleurijeune credited his Walgreens training with getting him through the terrifying situation and said he wants to go back to work as soon as he can get over his fear.
In a statement Monday, Walgreens said they're cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation and have been evaluating stores for safety.
"In recent years we have greatly expanded our use of digital surveillance cameras both inside and outside our Fort Lauderdale stores. These digital cameras provide clearer pictures to law enforcement and greatly increase the ability to recognize the person committing a crime," the statement said. "Digital cameras also allow us to quickly make our footage available to law enforcement to aid in their investigations. In many of our locations we have increased our lighting in our store parking lots to deter crimes from occurring in low lit areas."
