Dash Cam Video Shows Indian River County Deputy, Suspect in Shootout

Dash cam video showing a suspect punching a Florida deputy before the two exchanged gunfire was released by authorities Friday.

Indian River County Deputy Christopher Lester had stopped 52-year-old Andrew Coffee after he spotted Coffee driving a scooter with no tag early Friday in Gifford, sheriff's office officials said.

"Don't go reaching into anything, just go right on the hood, hands right on the hood," Lester tells Coffee in the video.

"What's the problem? What's the problem sir?" Coffee asks the deputy.

As Lester tried to place Coffee under arrest, Coffee punched the deputy then pulled a revolver from his waistband and opened fire, officials said.

Lester was hit by a bullet in his leg but returned fire, hitting Coffee twice, officials said.

Multiple gunshots are heard in the video, as a wounded Coffee tries to run from the scene.

"Shots fired, shots fired!" Lester is heard yelling into a radio.

Both men were taken to area hospitals, with Coffee in stable condition and Lester in good condition.
