Gov. DeSantis Suspends Fees, Penalties for SunPass Customers

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has suspended fees and penalties for SunPass customers until June, the Florida Department of Transportation announced Friday.

While FDOT will continue to suspend fees and penalties until June 1, final reminders are being sent to TOLL-BY-PLATE customers that include transactions through the end of December 2018.

"Since I've been governor, I've heard the concerns from citizens and customers of SunPass and the hardships they've been facing related to their delayed bills and billing errors by the contractor, Conduent," DeSantis said in a news release.

Earlier this year, many SunPass customers with transponders reported being hit with hefty bills and being told they had just over a month to pay it back. Since then, FDOT has adjusted those bills.

SunPass issues date back to last summer, when state transportation officials in Florida blamed the company that manages SunPass, Conduent State & Local Solutions, for an upgrade to the system that resulted in delayed and inaccurate charges.
