Elderly Woman Found Dead in Southwest Miami-Dade May Have Been Attacked by Family Dog: Police

The Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating the death of a 91-year-old woman who may have been attacked by her family dog.

Investigators were called to a home in the 9400 block of Southwest 18th Terrace in Miami around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue found 91-year-old Carmen Reigada unresponsive, and believe she may have been attacked by the family dog.

Reigada was transported to Kendall Regional Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Neighbors told NBC 6 that Reigada was a kind woman, and many were shocked by what happened.

"I feel very bad," one neighbor said. "I loved the lady."

One neighbor told NBC 6 that to her knowledge, the dogs belonged to the victim's son.

"Everybody knows the dogs," she says. "The dogs have been there before. The dogs know the lady, so I don't know why that happened, I really don't know why that happened."

Some neighbors reported that the dogs were aggressive, while others say the dogs were well behaved.

Miami-Dade Animal Services responded and impounded three dogs from the home, officials said. The dogs are being housed at the shelter while the death is investigated.

The investigation is ongoing.
