Death of 2-Year-Old Girl Ruled a Homicide: BSO

The death of a 2-year-old girl found dead in her home near Fort Lauderdale has been ruled a homicide, authorities said Monday.

The ruling was made following a medical examiner's autopsy in the Nov. 19 death of Za'Maya Williams, who was found unconscious and unresponsive in her bed at her home in the 1100 block of Northwest 30th Terrace, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

Responding deputies quickly began trying to resuscitate the little girl, who was staying the night at her grandparents' home. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported her to Plantation General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Family members said Williams was asleep in bed when she was found unconscious, officials said.

No arrests have been made. The death remains under investigation.

Family members declined to comment Monday.
