Deerfield Beach Man and Wife Arrested For Fake “Media Miami Heat” Passes at Finals Game: Report

James and Ruth Krauff were stopped by arena security during Game 4: Sun Sentinel

A Deerfield Beach couple was arrested after they allegedly used fake media credentials to get into the press section of Game 4 of the NBA Finals at AmericanAirlines Arena, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

James Kauff, 60, and his wife Ruth Kauff, 52, were stopped by security at a ticket checkpoint inside the arena during the game on Tuesday of last week, according to Miami Police. They each had a fraudulent pass that said “Media Miami Heat” and had their photo pasted on it, the Sun Sentinel reported.

Their attorney told the newspaper that the Kauffs had real game tickets and watched the contest, which the Heat won 104-98 over the Oklahoma City Thunder. The incident was a “mix-up,” Bruce Lehr said.

They were each charged with fraudulent creation or possession of admission tickets and trespassing, both misdemeanors. Ruth Kauff was also charged with possession of suspected Oxycodone, a felony, after police found a clear plastic bag that held 13 pills that she said were Oxycodone, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Husband and wife were both released after posting $1,000 bond each, the paper said.
