Department of State Employee Facing Child Pornography Charge in Broward

A U.S. Department of State employee is facing child pornography charges in South Florida, authorities said Tuesday.

Peter Meyers, 53, was arrested on charges of possession of child pornography, according to a federal criminal complaint.

Meyers was being held without bond at Broward's main jail late Tuesday, records showed. It was unknown if he has an attorney.

According to the complaint, the FBI began investigating the case in February, when an agent found 50 video files and eight images depicting child pornography on a file sharing network.

The investigation led the agent to an IP address registered to Meyers, the complaint said. On Tuesday, a search warrant was executed at Meyer's Margate home, where files depicting child pornography were found on a laptop and an external hard drive, the complaint said.

Meyers admitted to using a file sharing network but asked if he could speak with an attorney, the complaint said.

According to Meyers' LinkedIn profile, he has been a security technical specialist with the Department of State since 2003.
