Two women were arrested in Marathon after a detective found prescription bottle and “a large amount” of marijuana in the car they were inside, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sierra Williams, 26, of Miami, and Brandi Harley, 26, of Key West, were both arrested Friday, according to authorities. Another passenger in the car was released.
Detective Nick Whiteman pulled over the Nissan at 33rd Street for an out tag light. He said he smelled a “strong odor of marijuana coming from inside," the sheriff's office said.
After searching the vehicle, Whiteman found hundreds of small, purple-colored ziplock bags under the driver’s seat. Hidden behind a panel on the front passenger side was “a large amount of marijuana" in 95 separate bags “packaged as if it for sale,” authorities said.
Harley, who told authorities the marijuana belonged to her, was charged with possessing a felony amount of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, according to the sheriff's office. Williams, the driver of the vehicle who was found with a prescription bottle of Oxycodone not under her name, was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Authorities said the confiscated marijuana weighed 142 grams.
