A man shot his wife's friend, then turned the gun on himself after a deadly domestic dispute in Hollywood last night, police said.
The tragedy unfolded when Zacharia Fernandez's estranged wife and her friend arrived at his Hollywood home to pick up the couple's 9-year-old child shortly before 6 p.m., authorities said.
Moments later, Fernandez opened fire on his wife and her friend as they tried to flee the scene in their car, striking the friend. The unidentified woman died a short time later at Memorial Regional Hospital, according to police.
Fernandez, 40, then turned the gun on himself. Fernandez and his wife were in the middle of a divorce, police said.
"I saw a lady down, I turned back to see Zack, the gentleman who lives a few houses down, he was in his driveway, he was down," said a neighbor, who only wanted to be identified as Don.
The 9-year-old wasn't injured in the shooting.
