Here's more proof dogs are pretty darn smart pets.

Plantation firefighters said a pooch that found itself trapped in a house fire Thursday survived by hiding in a kitchen cabinet.

Rescuers responded to 1852 NW 93 Terrace around 2:40 p.m. and found the flames spewing out of the kitchen. The elderly woman who lived in the house was already out, but she told firefighters her dog was still inside, officials said.

As smoke began to fill up the kitchen area, firefighters were able to hear barking from an unlikely area: a kitchen cabinet.

The dog was rescued and is doing fine, officials said.

Officials are trying to determine what started the blaze. The elderly woman and her quick-thinking pet will stay with her daughter, officials said.
