Dog Left Tied to Fence in North Miami Suffers Gruesome Injury

A dog that was found with a gruesome neck injury after it was left tied to a fence in North Miami with a wire is recovering after receiving emergency treatment.

The Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation said a passerby found the American Bulldog while on a walk Monday.

"Went up to the dog and let him sniff my hand, and noticed he had wire around his neck," Lorraine Mitchell said. "Noticed his smell of rotten flesh on him, and fleas jumping around, all over him."

The wire was so tight around the dog's neck that it caused a gash about four inches deep, foundation officials said. The dog also had an infection and was about 20 pounds underweight.

"We are unsure what kind of people could be capable of putting a helpless animal through this torture. Obviously we have monsters walking among us," the foundation wrote on its Facebook page.

After the dog was freed, he underwent treatment at the Animal Wellness Clinic in Tamarac. The foundation has since named him Chance.

Chance will need follow-up visits to the doctor to have his bandages changed and wounds cleaned. To donate to his recovery, click here.
