Dog Found After Owner Attacked in Wilton Manors

A dog is home safe after his owner was beaten by attackers Monday during their morning walk in Wilton Manors.

The owner, who did not want to be identified, told NBC 6 that his 8-year-old Manchester terrier mix named Petey disappeared after he was attacked.

The Wilton Manors Police Department tweeted that Petey was safe and reunited with his owner, who said that he was found at around 6:30 p.m. north of Oakland Park Boulevard on 6th Avenue.

Petey was scraped up and "freaked out" but is expected to be OK, the owner said.

Police are investigating a battery case that happened at around 5 a.m. near the corner of Wilton Drive and 6th Avenue.

The victim said there were several attackers, one who approached him from behind and two others that jumped out of a dark-colored vehicle. He said they beat him to the ground and kicked him in the head.

"Nothing was said to me, nothing was taken from me," he said. "I was just beaten and now my dog is gone."

The attackers got away in the vehicle, which made a right on Wilton Drive and headed southwest.

Police are asking possible witnesses to call authorities.
