A dog is recovering after being shot in the leg.

Mirtha Garcia told reporters she rescued Tim the chihuahua from Miami-Dade Animal Services, who thought the dog was injured after being hit by a car. But a visit to the vet revealed the dog had a bullet in its leg.

Thanks to donations from community members, vets were able to perform surgery on Tim and remove parts of the bullet from his leg.

"It makes me feel great that we have a community that actually cares about the animals," Garcia said.

Vets say Tim is now on the road to recovery.
