Dolphins Acquire Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell

The Dolphins have acquired Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell from the Eagles

The Miami Dolphins completed a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell on Wednesday.

Going back to Philadelphia will be Miami's eighth overall pick, while the Dolphins will now select 13th. There is no other compensation in the trade which is more of a salary dump for the Eagles.

This has been a busy week already for Miami with multiple contract restructurings and the releases of Greg Jennings and Brent Grimes. Miami also signed Mario Williams and removed a transition tag from Olivier Vernon.

Alonso and Maxwell both joined the Eagles last season and were looked at as big parts of the team going into the year. That would not be the case and a new coaching staff in Philadelphia decided to make a change. Some new scenery could be exactly what both players need.

Alonso had a career-low 43 tackles with the Eagles in 2015 and only compiled one interception. it was a bitterly disappointing year for a guy who was once picked in the second round by the Buffalo Bills. The 25-year old linebacker still possesses great potential and has the ability to be an impact player.

Maxwell entered the 2015 season as the top cornerback for Philadelphia after inking a deal worth $63 million. The 28-year old didn't live up to that big deal however as he only had two interceptions and 64 tackles himself. With Grimes expected to be sent out of town soon, Maxwell is an obvious replacement at CB.

The Dolphins are in the midst of a roster makeover under new head coach Adam Gase. The team was a disappointment in 2015 and is looking to make a quick and strong turnaround next season. There will need to be a flurry of signings and trades in addition to those being made so far in order to accomplish that goal.
