The Miami Dolphins, days after making their final roster cuts before the start of the 2013 season, moved to shore up their offensive line depth Monday morning. The team cut guard Josh Samuda and signed a one-year deal with former Philadelphia Eagle lineman Danny Watkins.
The Miami Herald reported the move Tuesday morning. Samuda announced his departure from Miami on Twitter, saying "Thanks Miami for the love and support... but my time has come to an end here."
Samuda was a second-year guard whom the Dolphins signed as an undrafted free agent out of Massachusetts in 2012. He started three preseason games for the Dolphins at right guard, but lost his starting spot when veteran John Jerry returned from injury later in the preseason.
Watkins is a former first-round pick who never panned out in Philadelphia. Entering his third season, he started 12 games in 2011 and 6 in 2012.
The Eagles released him due in part to Watkins' inability to translate the aggressiveness he played with in college to the pro game. "The toughness we saw at Baylor [University] never translated to Philadelphia," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman told CSNPhilly.com over the weekend.
This could be Miami's final roster move before Sunday's season opener against the Cleveland Browns. On Saturday, the team announced 22 cuts that shrunk the roster down to the league-mandated 53 players.
Notable players released on Saturday included WRs Marvin McNutt and Chad Bumpis, DE Antwan Applewhite, and former draft picks LB Austin Spitler and DT Kheeston Randall.

The Dolphins play their first game of the 2013 season on Sunday, on the road against the Cleveland Browns. Miami's first home game is not until Week 3, when the Dolphins host the Atlanta Falcons.
