Dolphins Game Preview: Week Three vs. Jets

The Dolphins will take on the 0-2 Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday

The Miami Dolphins will try and get the season off to a 2-0 start when they face the New York Jets on Sunday.

Following a dramatic 19-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, the Dolphins have a great opportunity to stay undefeated. The Jets could end up with one of the worst records in the league this season and are 0-2 thus far.

In the win over Los Angeles, the kicking game proved to be the difference maker. Cody Parkey converted four field goals for Miami, including the game-winner near the end of regulation. That effort led to Parkey being named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. While Parkey's leg could be a factor again, it is likely Miami will need more production from the main offensive unit.

Jay Cutler did a fine job in the win over Los Angeles with 230 yards on a 24-33 passing day. Cutler also picked up a passing touchdown and avoided any interceptions. New York's defense could lead to a bigger day for Cutler, with some big play possibilities.

There is also a little extra backstory in this game for Cutler. New York was linked to Cutler during the off-season, before the quarterback opted for retirement instead. New York ended up signing Josh McCown who has had one good game and one poor effort so far. McCown's offensive line has been an issue as the QB has already been sacked five times. McCown has also fumbled once and been picked off twice.

Putting pressure on McCown at the start, could set the tone for the rest of the game. With a weak offensive line, Miami's strong defensive line could appear even more ferocious. Miami's defense was rather quiet last week in Los Angeles, but the talent is there for a big day. After William Hayes picked up Miami's lone sack a week ago, others will look to pad their stats on Sunday.

The Dolphins will be without the services of Lawrence Timmons once again, as the team suspended the veteran indefinitely. The circumstances surrounding Timmons' situation are still unclear and it remains to be seen when he will suit up for the team again. Stephone Anthony was added to the roster in the meantime.

Jay Ajayi missed some practice this week, but is expected to play on Sunday. Ajayi rushed for 122 yards in Los Angeles and has been slowed by a knee injury since. If Ajayi does play and is healthy, he could have a tremendous day against New York's lackluster defense.

Sunday's kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
