Dolphins Meeting With Chris Johnson: Report

The Dolphins continue to search for a running back and will reportedly meet with Chris Johnson

The Miami Dolphins are searching for a new running back and will meet with Chris Johnson on Wednesday, according to a report from ESPN.

Johnson spent the 2015 season with the Arizona Cardinals and began the year playing decently. The veteran would see his production tail off as the season went on, and eventually had his year end early due to a broken tibia.

When Johnson went down with the injury, he was in the top-5 among all NFL rushers even after factoring in the late-season decline. This production showed that the 31-year old could still be an effective member of an offense and could be an asset for Miami. The Dolphins are looking for a ground game that can take some pressure off quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Miami let Lamar Miller walk via free agency this off-season and swung and missed on a contract with C.J. Anderson. The Dolphins had signed Anderson to an offer sheet, before the Denver Broncos elected to match that contract on Tuesday. It had appeared initially that Anderson would end up as Miami's new running back.

Before playing in Arizona, Johnson spent time with the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets. The 2016 season will be the ninth year of Johnson's career after coming out of East Carolina in 2008.

Johnson has made headlines for some off-the-field incidents in the past. The Orlando native was arrested in 2015 for openly carrying a weapon, but charges were never pursued. There was also an incident in that same year where Johnson was shot in the shoulder while another individual passed away.

Johnson has been selected for the Pro Bowl four times in his career and has 54 career touchdowns.
