Dolphins Meeting With RB Stevan Ridley

The Dolphins are meeting with free-agent running back Stevan Ridley on Tuesday

The Miami Dolphins are in the hunt for a running back and Stevan Ridley became the latest possible addition on Tuesday.

Ridley is recovering from an ACL and MCL tear in his knee which ended his 2014 season abruptly after only six games. The major knee injury has a lengthy rehab process and that is a process that Ridley is currently entrenched in.

If Ridley ends up in Miami, he would likely serve as depth and a back-up to Lamar Miller. The 26-year old may find himself in goal-line situations where he could pound the ball into the end zone.

Knowshon Moreno was the primary running back heading into the 2014 season but succumbed to injuries of hos own and had his season cut short. Moreno has not been eliminated as an option but is not expected back in Miami.

After Moreno went down with the injury, Miller took over and did a fantastic job. Miami had the second-best running attack in the league despite losing their original primary tailback. Miller accumulated 12 rushing touchdowns on 1,872 rushing yards.

Ridley did a fine job as well before his injury. In the six games played, Ridley picked up two touchdowns on 340 yards rushing. The RB also tallied some additional yards while receiving the ball from Tom Brady in the air.

One flaw in Ridley's game is his ability to hold onto the ball. Ridley already has nine fumbles in his short NFL career. However, the RB did not fumble the ball once in the shortened 2014 campaign.

Ridley was a third-round pick by New England in the 2011 NFL draft and would likely be a hotter commodity if not for his injury. The opportunity for a low-risk, high-reward type signing could play a role here for the Dolphins.

Miami has made several additions this off-season, and still has some money to spend after clearing cap space in multiple moves.
