The preseason got off to a good start for the Miami Dolphins with their 27-10 win over the New York Giants on Friday.
New York jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead before Miami answered back with a 17-0 second quarter. The Dolphins would add on ten more points to finish the game with 27 unanswered points. While Miami's first team led by Ryan Tannehill had two quick three-and-outs, the second team fared much better.
As expected, Tannehill saw very limited action. It is standard practice to give the first team players a very brief appearance in the first preseason game. The quarterback especially is given a small amount of playing time. Not only was Miami looking to avoid injuries for its QB, but it wanted to give backup QB Matt Moore as much work as possible.
In his time on the field, Tannehill was 2-4 for eight yards. Next week, Tannehill should play the entire first quarter and possibly part of the second quarter as well. Moore's day consisted of 122 yards on 10-14 passing. The QB threw one touchdown pass and was picked off once. Moore is entering his sixth season with the Dolphins and has played in a total of six games over the last four years.
The Dolphins also received strong production from their other quarterbacks who came in after Moore. Brandon Doughty went 7-10 on his passing attempts for 66 yards, while Zac Dysert added a touchdown in his brief time on the field.
Arian Foster was given the night off, but several other players were able to show off their work on the ground. Jay Ajayi had six yards on his two carries. Damien Williams meanwhile put a rushing touchdown on the board. The most yardage on the ground came from Isaiah Pead with his 50 yards.
Miami had two interceptions of its own with one each coming from Bobby McCain and A.J. Hendy. Spencer Paysinger and Brandon Doughty both also fumbled the ball for Miami, but the team was able to recover its own fumbles. Deandre Coleman recovered a New York fumble in a successful day overall for the defense.

Miami will stay on the road and travel to Dallas for next Friday's game against the Cowboys at 8:00 p.m.
