Dolphins' Pouncey Misses Practice With Hip Issues

Dolphins center Mike Pouncey missed practice due to recurring issues with his hip

The Miami Dolphins could be without center Mike Pouncey once again due to recurring issues with his hip.

Pouncey was held out of practice on Thursday and his status for Sunday's game is currently uncertain. Miami began the year without Pouncey and his loss was very apparent. The Dolphins began the year with a 1-4 record, which was due in large part to their depleted offensive line.

Pouncey had hip surgery during the off-season after he already underwent an operation on his foot. It has been a year riddled with injuries for the 27-year old and Miami is sure to be cautious now.

Since Pouncey returned to action, Miami's offense has been running on all cylinders. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has found a rhythm and has not turned the ball over in four straight games. A lot of this can be attributed to the fact that Tannehill has more time in the pocket. Without Pouncey, Tannehill could find himself scrambling more again.

Pouncey's impact has also been noticeable in Miami's running game. Jay Ajayi has been on one of the best stretches in franchise history as of late. Without Pouncey in the middle, Ajayi could find less running room in front of him. Even though Pouncey is only one man, his loss has shown it can have an overall effect on the entire offensive unit.

If Pouncey can't play on Sunday, Miami would likely turn to Anthony Steen who sits next on the depth chart. Steen started earlier this season in Pouncey's absence.

Miami will take on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
