Dolphins Take RT Ja'Wuan James In 1st Round of NFL Draft

The Miami Dolphins stayed put at the number 19 spot in the 2014 NFL Draft and selected Tennessee right tackle Ja’Wuan James. The career right tackle will play the same position for the Dolphins next season.

The Dolphins had a glaring need for offensive line help and the team addressed that with the pick in the first round. While not the most famous player available, he’s the only player with more than 40 starts at right tackle.

For his career, James started 49 games at right tackle at Tennessee. He stands 6’6”, weighs 311 pounds and according to NFL.com’s profile is a “big, strong, heavy pass protector with good balance, anchor strength, and hand use to handle power and speed.”

The Dolphins will slot James in at right tackle and the Fins have solved both ends of the offensive line and still have Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey in the middle at center. When the 2014 season starts, the Dolphins will have four new starters out of five positions on the offensive line.
