Donald Trump Debuts Revamped Blue Monster Course

"This will be the finest golf resort, easily, anywhere in the United States," the businessman said in Doral

Billion-dollar businessman Donald Trump teed off on what he called a better-than-ever Blue Monster golf course, which he debuted Thursday.

"This will be the finest golf resort, easily, anywhere in the United States," Trump said.

Trump took over the Blue Monster about two years ago when he purchased the old Doral Golf Resort and Spa. The $150 million purchase also netted Trump five other courses, hundreds of hotel rooms, spas and villas. The resort remained open even as it underwent renovations that were estimated to last about a year and a half. Trump told crowds that he and his team have created a course not even veterans will recognize.

"It's got a lake on the right, it's got a very tough green,” he explained. "I also think number 9, number 10, and 15 is now a peninsula green."

The course unveiling came just weeks before it plays host to the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship, and Doral Mayor Luigi Boria called the timing perfect.

"This year is going to be outstanding," Boria said.
