Donations Pouring in Across Miami-Dade County to Help Haiti Following Hurricane Matthew

Donations by the truckload are headed for areas in Haiti that were stricken and devastated by Hurricane Matthew.

Even another truck was not enough for all the goods dropped off at Fire Station 11, one of the many places taking donations around the area.

Captain Jackson Deglace has Haitian roots, so this hurricane relief is personal.

"I understand the need that they have and I can understand the gratitude that they'll have once they see this," Deglace said

The trail of pickup trucks leads to Notre Dame d' Haiti Catholic Church, which is the last stop before shipment to thousands suffering on the island of Hispaniola.

"At least they can have some food, they can have some clothes,” said Deglace. “They can have some shoes because some of these families have lost it all."

In the church driveway, some donations showed up faster than volunteers could unload them.

"It feels good, just sitting on this stuff we’re not wearing,” said Robert Ham, who donated clothes. “Plenty clothes, plenty of baby clothes inside the containers we was saving for a yard sale."

What was meant for sale has now become a gift of comfort to people in desperate need.
