Be afraid. Be very afraid, kids.
Miami is great for sun and fun, but not so much when it comes to raising your kids.
Children's Health magazine ranked Miami 99th out of 100 cities profiled for people looking for the best place to bring up their tiny tots. The survey took into account pretty much everything Miami routinely is crappy at - safety, crime, education, economy and housing.
There was no category for climate or nightlife (which wouldn't matter if your kids go to bed at 8 p.m.).
We also figure having a sex predator camp located under a bridge didn't gain Miami much favor with the pollsters.
The "Best Children's City" edition of the magazine hits new stands today and has First Lady Michell Obama on the cover (Washington DC ranks No. 17).
What does it say about Florida cities when Sin City, Las Vegas, is ranked higher on the child-rearing scale?
Basically, Children's Health is warning parents, if you don't want your children to become uncontrollable heathens or delinquents, don't raise them in Florida, especially Miami.
Surprisingly, Mickey Mouse land is ranked just ahead of Miami at No. 98. Apparently, iconic cartoon figures and seven dwarfs weren't enough to gain Orlando much favor, either. Tampa comes in at No. 94.
In case you were wondering, Detroit ranks at the bottom of the totem poll, while Burlington, Vermont is viewed as the best place in the nation to have a kid.
