Nearly a Dozen Cars Broken Into at Miramar Hotel

Some guests at a Marriott Residence Inn in Miramar got a very unwelcome wake-up call Wednesday when they found their cars had been broken into overnight.

Miramar Police said 10 vehicles in the parking lot were broken into by thieves with many having the windows smashed to let the thieves inside. Thieves also tried to target an 11th car, but were unsuccessful.

“I woke up, my car was broken into, and I find out my boyfriend’s car was broken into, and 10 other more cars,” said Michelle Vega. “They took my laptop, they took my camera and I don’t even know what else, because I haven’t even picked up the glass yet.”

The Marriott Residence Inn said it’s working with authorities to track down the thieves. Vega said the incident reminded her to keep her valuables out of the car.

“Everybody does leave things in their car, even though they’re not supposed to,” Vega said. “Everything was covered up. But people, I guess, are desperate, trying to steal.”

If you have any information about the break-ins, you’re asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
