Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over, Florida Highway Patrol Tells Holiday Drivers

Drive sober or get pulled over. That is the message from the Florida Highway Patrol this holiday season.

“Do everything possible not to ruin your life or ruin someone else’s life,” Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez said. “My advice to you is have a good time and celebrate with your family, but be responsible. Don’t drink and drive.”

Around this time last year, 830 people lost their lives to drunk driving nationwide.

"If they decide to drink and drive, than the red lights behind them will not be Rudolph's nose, there will be a police car,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said.

Statistics show that accidents and deaths increase by 4 percent specifically this time of year.

Last month, Miami-Dade Police made 53 arrests for driving under the influence.

Last weekend alone, the Broward Sheriff’s Office arrested 33 people for DUI. The FHP made seven arrests in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties, and two in Broward County.
