Driver Ran Over Man in Hialeah in Dispute Over Woman: Hialeah Police

Jose Rivas is in a coma at Jackson Memorial Hospital

A dispute over a woman landed Jose Rivas in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to police. Now, his family is hoping he can leave the hospital one day.

“At this moment he is in critical condition,” his sister Milagro Rivas said in Spanish. “He is very delicate and we are praying that he makes it out.”

Eddy Rodriguez-Murillo ran over Jose Rivas in a car outside a bar in Hialeah at 3690 NW 54th St. last Friday night, police said.

“Rodriguez-Murillo speeds up his car towards Rivas and runs him over in an apparent attempt to kill him,” Hialeah Police spokesman Carl Zogby said.

Murillo drove off and police say they have been looking for him ever since for Rivas’ attempted murder.

The two men argued inside the establishment over a woman who works there, police said. As Rivas walked towards his car at closing time, Rodriguez-Murillo ran him over in the parking lot, they added.

Rivas remains in a coma at the hospital, and his relatives aren't sure he's going to survive.

“He should pay for what he did because if he was so mad, there was another way to solve the situation,” said his brother, Angel Rodriguez, of the suspect.

Rodriguez-Murillo, who is originally from Nicaragua, was temporarily living in Hialeah until the incident, police said.

They urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to call Hialeah Police at 305-687-2525 or Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
