A driver was injured after his car slammed into a tree and was nearly crushed by a light pole in Miami Gardens Wednesday morning.

Police said the driver of the Infiniti, who is in his early 20s, lost control for some reason and struck the pole and tree on Miami Gardens Drive at Northeast 10th Avenue.

"Didn’t hear any screeching or anything like that," neighbor David Katz said. "This intersection does have a lot of accidents. Usually you hear screeching, but today nothing, just the impact."

Footage showed firefighters working for several minutes with the to free the driver of the car.

Katz said the car was so mangled and twisted from the crash that it was a time consuming rescue for fire crews.

"It took them a long time so get him out," he said. "You can see from the condition of the vehicle this car got wrapped around the tree somehow.”

Another neighbor said he witnessed the man being pulled from his car.

"He was screaming in pain, physical pain," a neighbor named Daniel said.

The unidentified victim was placed into an ambulance and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where his condition was unknown.

The crash caused tarffic backups in the area for more than an hour and half as workers had to remove the pole before taking the driver out of the crumpled car.

Investigators are not yet sure what caused the crash.

"It is still under investigation and [speed] could be a contributing factor, also not wearing a seatbelt," FHP Trooper Dallani Garcia-Cruz said.
