A Winter Park man accused of fleeing a sobriety checkpoint and crashing into a deputy was released from the hospital Sunday and booked into jail, authorities announced.

Donald Forrest Geraghty, 51, was booked into Osceola County Jail and faces charges including attempted murder on a law enforcement officer and fleeing and eluding, according to Osceola County deputies.

On Sept. 15, Geraghty, driving with a suspended license, allegedly fled through the safety and sobriety checkpoint and then struck a deputy with his vehicle.

The injured deputy was able to shoot at Geraghty’s car several times, and the 51-year-old was eventually taken into custody with the help of a K-9 unit, authorities said.

Geraghty was airlifted to Osceola Regional Medical Center, the same hospital that treated the deputy’s non-life threatening injuries.
