A driver was struck and killed while getting out of a car after a crash on Interstate 595 in Tuesday morning, officials said.

The incident happened when the driver of a BMW sedan, 45-year-old Gregory Carl Gardner, was involved in a crash on westbound I-595 at the ramp to the Florida Turnpike, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

Gardner got out of the car and was struck by a Lexus driven by 33-year-old Michel Ramon Rondon, officials said. Gardner was killed, while Rondon stayed at the scene.
