A driver was arrested Thursday morning after police say he fled the scene of a deadly hit-and-run crash in Southwest Miami-Dade, killing a bicyclist he allegedly struck.
Florida Highway Patrol officials said the incident occurred along U.S. 1 near the intersection of Southwest 260th Street just after 3:30 a.m., when a white Chevrolet sedan struck the bicyclist and drove away.
That bicyclist, who has not been identified, was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the sedan, identified as 33-year-old Nelson Rodriguez, was stopped near Southwest 296th Street a short time later by Miami-Dade Police officers and turned over to FHP troopers, officials said.
Police have not said what charges will be filed in the case and if alcohol or speed played a role.
