    South Florida motorists should avoid certain stretches of Florida s Turnpike and Interstate 95 on Monday, because football fans will be converging on Sun Life Stadium for the BCS National Championship Game, state officials say. NBC 6 reporter Gilma Avalos has the story.

    South Florida motorists should avoid certain stretches of Florida’s Turnpike and Interstate 95 on Monday, because football fans will be converging on Sun Life Stadium for the BCS National Championship Game, state officials say.

    Traffic is expected to especially high, because Monday is a weekday, work day and school day. 
    Florida’s Turnpike is expected to have its heaviest traffic from noon to 9 p.m., mainly at the Northwest 199th Street/Dolphin Stadium exit and Northwest 27th Avenue exit, according to turnpike officials.

    College football fans are taking over South Florida. The big national championship game is Monday at Sun Life Stadium, and fans aren't waiting to celebrate. NBC 6 reporter Christina Hernandez has the story.

    Additionally, drivers who normally commute on Interstate 95 should avoid going northbound on the highway between downtown Miami and the Golden Glades interchange, according to the Orange Bowl committee.

    Some possible alternate routes include University Drive, U.S. 441, Interstate 75 and Federal Highway.

    Sun Life Stadium is hosting the BCS National Championship Game between Notre Dame and Alabama on Monday night and the crowds are already arriving to take part in the pre-game festivities. They're spending time and, more importantly, spending money.     Alabama, Notre Dame Fans Taking Over South Florida

    Football fans planning to attend the game are required to have a game ticket to park at Sun Life Stadium. Vehicles carrying non-ticket-holding patrons won’t be allowed to park at the stadium on game day. Those with tickets are encouraged to arrive at the stadium early and seek alternative routes to I-95/Florida’s Turnpike when traveling to the stadium.

    Cash parking lots at Sun Life Stadium will open at noon Monday.

    Off-site cash lots within walking distance of the stadium include: Calder Race Track on the north side (off Northwest 27th Avenue/University Drive); Betty T. Ferguson Park and Brentwood Elementary on the west side (NW 32nd Ave); Norwood Elementary School (Northwest 14th Court), Norland High School and Norland Middle School (Northwest 12th Avenue) on the east side.

    Ferguson Park will open at noon, Calder at 2 p.m. and the four schools will open at 3 p.m.
