Elderly Couple Displaced During Holidays After Fire Destroys NW Miami Home

An elderly couple and their pets managed to escape a fire that engulfed their Northwest Miami home Monday morning, and while the couple is lucky to be alive, they are now displaced from their home during this holiday season.

Miami Fire Rescue crews responded to house fire near Northwest 13th Avenue and 52nd Street around 3 a.m.

When crews arrived, the elderly couple was found outside — making it out before the flames consumed the home. Crews worked to rescue the couple's cat and dog from inside the home.

"This could've had a very tragic end, but luckily they are alive," Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said.

Miami Fire Rescue officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
