A 71-year-old man drove through his Lincoln Mercury through a carport and into a neighbor’s carport on the 600 block of SW 29th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale early Tuesday evening.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said the man was asleep in his car and when he woke up was startled and hit the gas. The man drove through his carport first and then slammed into his neighbor’s back porch.

"I'm just thankful that my children, my husband, my uncle is okay because they were in the living room," said neighbor Nika Davis. "So it missed them by a few inchese. I give all praise to God."

The man was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is not facing any charges at this point.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue’s TRT team also responded to the scene to help shore up the home. No one was displaced due to the accident.
