Elderly Man Robbed, Dragged by SUV Outside Miami-Dade Bank

Surveillance video showed a suspect run up to the man and grab a bag from him that contained cash and credit cards

An elderly man was violently robbed in a bank parking lot then dragged by an SUV in a crime that was caught on camera in southwest Miami-Dade.

The robbery happened back on Sept. 7 outside the Chase bank at 14290 Southwest 8th Street as the 82-year-old victim was getting into his car, Miami-Dade Police said.

Surveillance video showed a suspect run up to the man and grab a bag from him that contained cash and credit cards. The suspect then ran to an awaiting SUV while a second vehicle, a white pickup truck believed to have been driven by an accomplice, following the fleeing SUV.

As the SUV fled, the elderly man tried to get his bag but ended up dragged by the SUV before he fell to the pavement. He suffered a laceration to the back of his head and his right hand, and was brought to an area hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

"This thing could've gone tragic, he could’ve fallen down, the rear tires could’ve ran him over," Miami-Dade Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said. "At his age it would’ve been very difficult to be able to survive delicate surgeries."

Later that day, the suspects tried to make a purchase at a retail store using the victim's stolen credit cards, but were unsuccessful and fled on foot, police said.

Police said they're searching for four suspects, believed to be males between the ages of 20 and 25. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
