Elderly Woman Beaten, Robbed by Purse Thief

Police looking for Miami purse snatcher caught on tape

Police are looking for a brazen thief who was caught on camera after he attacked an elderly woman and stole her purse in Miami.

The incident happened on June 25, in the area of Northwest 1st Avenue and Northwest 6th Street, as the unidentified woman was walking home from the Metrorail Station, Miami Police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes said.

Reyes said the young thief was walking beside the woman when he suddenly threw her to the ground, grabbed her purse and took off running.

"It's broad daylight, it's around 11:15 a.m., this woman is walking from the Metrorail station and as she's walking towards her house, someone tugs on her purse, throws her down to the ground," Reyes said. "This woman endured an enormous amount of injuries."

The woman was taken to Jackson memorial Hospital, where she was badly bruised and treated for a broken arm, which later required surgery, Reyes said.

Witnesses, including a man in an SUV followed the suspect and tried to stop him, but he got away. Surveillance video from a nearby business captured him running from the scene with the purse under his arm.

Police are still looking for the suspect and are asking anyone with information to call Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
