Elderly Woman Robbed By Man Posing as Water and Sewer Worker

Police are looking for a home invasion suspect who posed as a Miami-Dade Water and Sewer worker and robbed an elderly woman with an accomplice.

The incident happened Monday afternoon at a home in the 8600 block of Southwest 128th Street when the suspect, posing as the water and sewer worker, knocked on the 85-year-old victim's door, police said.

The woman allowed the man inside and he let the second suspect into the home through a side door. One suspect distracted the woman while the other ransacked the home.

"Basically it was a distractionary type of crime," Miami-Dade Police spokesman Daniel Ferrin said.

When the woman became suspicious and picked up a phone to call her neighbor she was thrown to the ground by one of the suspects. Both suspects fled in a white truck with an unknown amount of valuables.

The woman suffered minor injuries.

"She was basically pushed down when she was inside the home in an attempt for her not to call neighbors," Ferrin said.

It's not the first time this type of crime has happened in the county. Police say senior citizens are often easy targets.

"If somebody is knocking on your door posing as someone from water and sewer or any other type of department contact those departments," Ferrin said.

Police said they're looking for two white males, between 40-50 years old. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
