Ex-Boyfriend of AA Worker Charged With Murder

Joel Rodriguez is charged with second-degree murder

A man recently extradited from Philadelphia has been charged with the murder of an American Airlines worker found dead in her Coral Gables home in January, court documents showed.

Joel Rodriguez, 49, is charged with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon in the death of his live-in girlfriend, Ruth Delia Fuentes, authorities said.

He was being held in Metro West Detention Center in Miami-Dade County without bond.

Fuentes, a passenger services supervisor at Miami International Airport, was found murdered inside her home on Jan. 21 after co-workers called authorities when she didn't show up for work for two days.

When police entered the home, they found Fuentes, 49, dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

Rodriquez was arrested in Philadelphia on an unrelated charge in February, but he was wanted for questioning in Fuentes' death. He was officially charged with her murder last month, court records showed.

During police questioning, Rodriguez said he and Fuentes were arguing on Jan. 18, but he didn’t remember whether he had killed her, The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

Rodriguez allegedly told police he "blacked out," the newspaper reported.
