A former supermarket owner who went on the run after his wife's lover was found murdered in South Florida made his first appearance in a Miami courtroom Friday since his arrest in Spain.
Manuel Marin, 64, wore a suicide prevention vent to the court appearance, where he was ordered to stay behind bars without bond. He was extradited to Miami from Spain this week to face charges including second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and kidnapping.
Marin is the former owner of some Presidente Supermarket stores.
Marin is one of four suspects in the June 2011 murder of 43-year-old Camilo Salazar, the secret lover of Marin's wife Jenny Marin. Also accused in the plot are former mixed martial artists Alexis Vila Perdomo and Ariel Gandulla, and fight trainer and promoter Roberto Isaac. Vila-Perdomo and Isaac remain in custody in Miami-Dade, but Gandulla is believed to have fled the country.
Salazar's body was found on a dirt road in the Florida Everglades in northwest Miami-Dade. He was bound, beaten, tortured, had his throat slashed and his body was partially burned, according to a police report.
On Thursday, Marin's son, Yaddiel Marin, was arrested on a charge of accessory after the fact. Authorities say Yaddiel Marin, who owns and operates many of the supermarkets once operated by his father, helped the older Marin while he was on the run.

Yaddiel Marin was also in court Friday to work out details of his release on $2 million bond. When released he'll be under house arrest with a GPS ankle bracelet.
