Ex-State Legislator Mandy Dawson Arrested for Using Cocaine During Probation: Report

It's not the first time Dawson has been caught using cocaine during probation.

Former state legislator Mandy Dawson is facing charges once more.

She was arrested Friday after a urine test revealed she used cocaine while on probation, according to the Sun Sentinel.

In 2012, Dawson pleaded guilty to charges of tax evasion and failure to file tax returns involving nearly $30,000 in tax loss. She admitted receiving money from lobbyists, including Fort Lauderdale ophthalmologist Alan Mendelsohn who is imprisoned on corruption convictions.

She served a six-month sentence and was released in April 2013, but since then Dawson has violated her probation two other times, according to the Sentinel. In February, a judge ordered Dawson to undergo psychotherapy for addiction instead of sending her back to prison, the Sentinel reported.

A Democrat, Dawson represented parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties in the state House and Senate for 16 years. She now lives in Daytona Beach.

It is unclear if Dawson has an attorney.
