The FBI said Gregory B. Moore, 35, was arrested Wednesday afternoon by federal agents at the Magnonia Park Tri-Rail Station on the 1400 block of 45th Street in West Palm Beach.
Moore was wanted for his role in a series of armed carjackings and a double-shooting that left one person dead on Tuesday. The crime spree closed I-95 in Broward County Tuesday and left thousands of students in lockdowns at their respective schools while law enforcement searched for Moore.
Moore’s alleged crime spree started just before 8 a.m. Tuesday. Police said he carjacked a woman and her son from the 1500 block of West Sunrise Boulevard and had them drive to I-95 where he ordered the woman and child out of the car.
The suspect then drove south on I-95 to Dania Beach, police said. The suspect then committed a second armed carjacking near I-95 and Griffin Road and fled south to Hallandale Beach.
Just after the second carjacking, two people were shot in the area of 217 E. Hallandale Beach Boulevard, police said. Hallandale Beach Police said the shootings were related to the carjackings and that the woman who was shot is the suspect’s girlfriend or ex-girlfriend.
A few hours later, the man died at a local hospital. The woman went through surgery late Tuesday afternoon and her last known condition was critical.
After a third carjacking at Pembroke Road and I-95, the suspect then fled northbound on I-95 and bailed out of the car near Broward Boulevard after crashing, police said.
The FBI, along with Fort Lauderdale Police, the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Hallandale Beach Police, and the Florida Highway Patrol were all involved in the case and search for Moore. All are continuing their investigation of Tuesday's crime spree.
Lauderhill Police had two run-ins with Moore just a few days ago. He was named a person of interest in a shooting at a home. The victim wouldn't cooperate with police, so they left. A few hours later, they found Moore inside another home where police had been called about a disturbance.
Moore surrendered to police, who said he had a .38 caliber handgun that had recently been fired. He was arrested for carrying a weapon without a license. He bonded out of jail a few hours later.
Moore is currently in federal custody in Broward County and will make his initial court appearance in a Fort Lauderdale federal court Thursday.
The FBI said it also arrested Jonathan Breedon Marion, 23, in connection with the crime. He is facing federal charges of accessory after the fact to carjacking and homicide.
