FBI Searching for Serial Bank Robbers in Miami

The FBI is searching for a crew that has robbed four Miami banks in the past few months.

“We have a group of thugs terrorizing banks down near the FIU area in Southwest Miami-Dade,” FBI spokesperson Robert Lanier said. “It’s at least two, perhaps three individuals that have robbed numerous banks.”

The first robbery tied to the suspects happened Aug. 28 at the BB&T Bank at 2375 Southwest 122nd Avenue. The next one happened Sept. 25 at the BB&T at 869 Southwest 107th Avenue. According to the FBI, the suspects then targeted the Citibank at 7795 W. Flagler Street on Oct. 23.

“The robbery that happened last week, the offenders are wearing baseball caps that said United States Air Force and they’re wearing military jumpsuits, like dark blue jumpsuits,” Lanier said.

The last bank robbery related to the group happened October 30 at the same BB&T branch on SW 122nd Street that was hit in August.

“Last week, they escalated in violence and they went from presenting notes to displaying firearms, taking customers and employees, and cleaning out the vault,” Lanier said of the robbery.

Investigators said they are following several clues in the case. One witness heard one of the robbers call another by the name Louis or Lewis and the group may have tattoos they are covering up. The robbers are also believed to be driving a white, 4-door Chevy Cruze with tinted windows.

The suspects are considered armed and dangerous. A $5,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 305-944-9101.
