FHP Begins Crackdown on Impaired Drivers During Holiday Season

If you're thinking about driving under the influence during the holidays, think again.

The Florida Highway Patrol will join forces with thousands of other law enforcement agencies across the nation to crack down on impaired drivers throughout the holiday season.

The nationwide campaign, coined "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over", kicked off Tuesday and runs through New Year’s Day.

"In an effort to get drunk and drugged drivers off Florida roads, FHP troopers will aggressively enforce impaired driving laws to ensure motorists and their families arrive to their destinations safely," said FHP Director Col. Gene S. Spaulding in a statement.

The 2016 holiday season saw, 193 drug- and alcohol-related crashes on Florida roads, which resulted in 36 fatalities, according to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

FHP officials say all uniformed troopers and personnel will be heavily patrolling interstates and other major state roads for duration of the campaign.

Motorists are advised to dial *347 if they see an impaired or aggressive driver on the roads.
