A 62-year-old Pompano Beach man had the scare of his life Tuesday night when a gun-toting crook posing as a Broward Sheriff's Office Deputy handcuffed him and ripped him off, according to police.

The fake cop knocked on the apartment door of Roland Mozard shortly before 9 p.m., demanding to see Mozard's driver's license, according to police.

The man, who had a gun in his waistband and spoke into a walkie talkie on his shoulder, identified himself as an undercover officer.

After Mozard complied with the man's request and handed over his I.D., the phony cop handcuffed him and demanded to know where he kept his money.

The fake cop swiped $400 and a debit card from the old man, but was nice enough to uncuff Mozard before he left.

The BSO describes the man as a thin black male about 6 feet tall with two gold front teeth. A witness helped police create a sketch of the suspect.

Anyone with info on the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Broward County at 954-493-TIPS.
