The families of two young women who were gunned down on a Liberty City street last month made tearful pleas to the public Friday asking for help in finding whoever is responsible.
Tiarra Grant, 18, and Shalaunda Williams, 22, were shot and killed just after midnight on Dec. 1 in the area of Northwest 12th Parkway and 65th Street. Two other women were injured in the shooting.
Police said none of the women were the target of the suspects, they just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Grant, who lived in Palm Bay but was visiting her mother for the holidays, left behind a daughter who was just six weeks old.
"I'm here without my daughter that never bothered anybody," mother Latisha Thompson said at a news conference Friday. "I'm raising a grandchild that will never get to know her mother."
Thompson fought back tears as she discussed her daughter's future and talked about how she was going to join the Army.
"We were very close, we were like sisters," Thompson said. "She was a very loving child, very caring."
Miami Police Sgt. Altarr Williams said detectives are working hard to develop leads and said they're getting a lot of response from the community. He said they're looking into a couple of suspects but no arrests have been made.
Shalaunda Williams' brother, Joseph Wright, was with his sister when she was killed.
"She was a good sister, loving, caring," he said. "I miss her so much, I wish she was here right now."
